Welcome to Lesson 5 of the Basic Microsoft Excel Tutorial. In this lesson we will cover Formulas. I hope you enjoy the lesson.
Formulas
Step 1: Select Cell

Select the cell where you want the formula to appear.
Step 2: Direct Entry

There are two ways to directly enter in the formula if you already know the syntax. You can select the cell where you want the formula and then enter in the formula. Formulas always start with an “=” sign. You can also type the formula into the formula bar.
Step 3: Wizard

If you are unsure of the syntax for the formula that you want to use there is a wizard that will guide you. To use the wizard select Insert and then function. You are then brought to the Insert Function dialog box where you can scroll through the various functions. At the bottom of the dialog box It explains what the function does and what the correct syntax is.
Step 4: Wizard Part 2

After you have selected the function to use, if there are values that need to be input, you will be brought to the Function Arguments dialog. From here you can select the values to use in the calculation
Step 5: Wizard Part 3

Your formula will now appear in the formula bar. You can make changes from here or copy the formula to another cell.
